The New Zealand Universities Enrollment Agreement is a legal contract that outlines the terms and conditions of enrollment for students at universities in New Zealand.
You must study these University of New Zealand enrollment terms and conditions in conjunction with the University of New Zealand calendar. Upon acceptance of the offer, these become a part of the contract between the University of Auckland and the accepted student.
The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand Courts in all matters arising from this agreement and the Offer of Admission, and this agreement is governed by the laws of New Zealand.
The parties agree to abide by any statutes, regulations, rules, and policies that the university council may occasionally adopt and publish in the calendar or otherwise make known to the student.
The student's ability to reside and study in New Zealand is dependent upon acquiring the proper student visa, which is a requirement of this agreement. Other visa holders should confirm that they are able to study in New Zealand before applying.
The student's receipt of a student visa is not ensured by the university's offer of admission.
All requirements pertaining to the student visa must be met by the student.
At the start of the first semester of classes for that calendar year, the student must give a copy of the student visa to the international office.
In the event that a student fails to submit proof of a current student visa or the necessary contact information, the Council may:
· (i) withdraw the enrolment of that student from a course or courses
· (ii) decline to re-enrol the student
· (iii) restrict that student's access to University services.
This agreement will expire and the University may offer the student's spot to another if they cannot obtain or maintain a valid student visa or if they must leave New Zealand for any reason.
In the event that this agreement expires in this manner, clause 8 of the Terms and Conditions will apply to the student in question as if they had been dropped from the program of study, and they may be eligible for a refund or credit.
All international students must have a suitable health and travel insurance policy during their course of study, according to the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016.
Enrollment is subject on the possession of a valid insurance coverage. All visa categories must be covered by approved insurance for the duration of the study period. For the term of their visa or until they leave New Zealand, whichever comes first, a person on a student visa must also have approved health and travel insurance.
The Student safe Inbound University coverage is the standard accepted insurance policy. The premium for the Student safe Inbound University policy will be assessed to all enrolled foreign students. Unless the University of Auckland permits the use of a different insurance policy, the Student safe Inbound University coverage payment must be paid. .
Applications and Admissions can be used to request recognition of earlier academic study. This service is provided without charge. For incoming exchange students, prior academic study is not taken into consideration.
An official academic transcript and thorough course descriptions from previous coursework must be submitted by the student to Applications and Admissions. Prior coursework will be evaluated by Admissions and Applications, and the candidate will be notified of the results of his or her application.
Although an application for past learning recognition can be made at any time, it is often done as part of the initial application.
For courses already taken at the University of New Zealand, the student will not be given credit retroactively.
The Offer of Admission/Conditional Offer of Admission may be accepted by the student either online through Student Services Online or by signing and mailing a copy to Applications and Admissions.
As soon as all requirements are satisfied, the student has the right to accept the offer and enroll at the University in the program of study outlined in the offer. The student will not be permitted to enroll if the requirements have not yet been satisfied or the offer has not yet been confirmed.
Student Services Online offers information on available courses. For more information, postgraduate students may need to get in touch with the faculty's postgraduate coordinator.
Students who are under 18 at the time of enrollment will not be permitted to enroll until written parental or guardian approval has been provided to the University of New Zealand and housing has been approved.
Any student who is under the age of 18 must reside full-time with either an authorized caregiver or relative or in an authorized home stay, as per the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016.
To satisfy Immigration New Zealand standards, tuition expenses for the first year of the program of study must be paid in full if the student is requesting a student visa from outside of New Zealand. Since inbound exchange students are not required to pay fees, clause 7 of these Terms and Conditions does not apply to them.
The fee on this Offer of Admission is an estimate;
· The total fee payable will be shown on the statement/invoice which can be generated via Student Services Online following course enrolment;
· The total fee payable is subject to course selection and enrolment requirements and may differ from that in the attached estimate; and
· Students are liable for any fees payable over and above the estimated amount stated in the attached estimate.
Tuition payments must be paid in full on or before the due date in order to enroll. The University may terminate this agreement and any enrolments if tuition payments are not paid by the deadline.
The anticipated tuition prices do not include other expenses like living expenses, travel expenses, and other program-related expenses.
The University Council reviews and approves the tuition costs each year for both new and returning students. Normal annual increases in international tuition costs range from 3% to 6%, but they can also be as high as 10%.
If the Offer of Admission is conditional, fees must not be paid until the offer is confirmed. A confirmed Offer of Admission with a fees estimate will be sent once conditions are met.
With the exception of inbound exchange students, who are excused from paying tuition costs, the student may be entitled to a refund of any or all of the tuition fees paid to the university under the conditions outlined below.
Sometimes referred to as ATCE, the course addition and deletion deadline (Alteration to Course Enrolments). It is not sufficient to inform a University of New Zealand employee of an enrolling change. The adjustments must be made via Student Services Online.
The deadlines for deleting courses with refund or credit of fees:
· The second Friday of the semester for courses taught in one semester; and
· The fourth Friday of the semester for courses taught over two semesters (double semesters); and
· The second Friday of the quarter for courses taught in one quarter; and
The university will, upon request, refund the costs paid, less an administration fee of NZ$1,060.00, in the event that the student cancels an online enrollment after paying the tuition but before the deadlines have passed.
When Immigration New Zealand denies a student visa despite a student having submitted all necessary supporting papers, the University will process a complete refund without deducting a refund or processing charge.

· Application to delete course enrolments after the deadline for deletion.
The required "Late Application to Delete a Course" form (AS-47) must be completed and submitted, along with any necessary supporting documentation and appropriate evidence, to latedeletions@auckland.ac.nz if the student is unable to continue with a course or program of study after the academic session has started due to exceptional circumstances such as illness, injury, or events beyond the control of the student. The application will be evaluated, and the outcome will be communicated to the student in writing.
After the deadline for withdrawal, any student may petition to stop attending a course or program of study by gaining the dean of the faculty for the program's approval as well as the approval of the relevant head of department. The "Course Alteration Form" must be used for applications. (AS-70).
The deadlines for withdrawals are as follows:
· Three weeks before the end of lectures for courses taught in one semester; and
· Three weeks before the end of lectures for courses taught over two semesters; and
· Two weeks before the end of lectures for courses taught in quarters
The course will still display as withdrawn on the student's academic transcript. There will be no refund of tuition. Withdrawal will be treated as a failure when determining academic standing.
The student will be registered as an "International Student" at the university. The tuition payments paid for the semester in which the student's status changes will not be refunded if the student subsequently changes to a "Domestic Student."
However, the student's status may be changed to "Domestic Student," domestic fees will apply, and the fees will be adjusted if the student acquires permanent residency before the deadline for adding and deleting courses specified in clause 8.1. If recalculation resulted in a credit balance on the fees account, the remaining balance of fees paid at the international fees rate will be reimbursed. The "Resident Visa" in the student's passport will be the only source used to determine the date of permanent residency. Note: The confirmation letter from Immigration New Zealand is not acceptable. The Student Information Centre, Room 112, Clock Tower Building, must receive an official certified copy of the "Resident Visa" and the personal information page of the passport as soon as feasible.
Special conditions/restrictions may apply for limited entry programmes, e.g. Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
This agreement does not grant the student the right to enroll in any other study program at the University or at any other New Zealand tertiary institution.
A student may apply to transfer to another programme of study but any such transfer will depend on:
· Availability of places in that requested programme of study; or
· Selection and approval by the relevant department or faculty in accordance with prescribed University selection criteria; and
· Such other statutes and regulations of the University relating to change of programme of study published in the Calendar or otherwise notified to the student.
This agreement will expire and the University will issue the student a new Offer of Admission for the new program of study if the student's application to transfer to a new program of study is approved.
To remain in good academic standing, a student must pass at least 50% of the courses they are registered for in any given semester, including summer school. Please consult the Enrollment and Program Regulations for further details.
The University may limit the number of credits a student may enroll in during the following semester of study if the student fails to meet the requirements outlined in the Academic Standing regulation, or it may cancel the student's enrollment and exclude the student from all University programs
After one year of exclusion, a student whose enrollment was terminated in accordance with the Academic Standing requirement may reapply for admission to a program. For a complete list of requirements, please refer to the Academic Standing section of the Enrolment and Programme Regulations.
Please refer to the Postgraduate Regulation's Duration and Total Points Value section, which applies to the study program described in the attached Offer of Admission.
The student should initially get in touch with the international office. The Director of the International Office will look into the complaint if it relates to an International Office procedure.
If the complaint relates to another division of the university, the director of the international office may request that the student put the complaint in writing and, upon request, may make contact with the appropriate division to seek a settlement on the student's behalf.
The University Proctor may receive a formal complaint from the student if they are not happy
The University will keep track of the student's progress throughout the program, and each year or as needed, the necessary authorities will be informed. By accepting this offer, you authorize the University to disseminate this information in accordance with the scholarship's requirements and the New Zealand Privacy Act.
The University of New Zealand degrees and certifications have frequently received accreditation from the necessary professional associations and organizations. Although this may be the case, graduates will frequently still need to fulfill a number of other prerequisites in order to be eligible for registration or licensing in order to engage in professional activity.
The University is not able to advise a student regarding the necessity of registering or obtaining a license. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each student to check with the relevant registration or licensing authority (or authorities) to see if the proposed degree or registration/licensing in the relevant jurisdiction and to see if particular course or other requirements must be satisfied in order to qualify before accepting an Offer of Admission in a program.
